With Takamatsu City as the center of politics, economy and culture in Shikoku Region, Port of Takamatsu has developed as a port having the functions of commercial port and sightseeing port, and the properties of industrial port from early days.
Ferry boats connecting Shikoku, Honshu Main Land and isolated islands now become the means of traffic essential for the economic infrastructure of physical distribution and the life infrastructure for commuting to companies and schools, and the amount of cargo handled by the ferry boats in 2010 ranked at the 5th place nationally (28.52 million tons) and the number of people boarding on/off the ferry boats in the year ranked at the 4th place (2.57 million people) nationally. Further, 5 services of foreign trade container seaway are available between China and Korea, and the quantity handled by the foreign trade container ships in 2010 was 33,000 TEU, 2st place in Shikoku.
