Port of Sakaide

Port of Sakaide, located in the central part of Kagawa Prefecture, thrived as a salt-loading port from Edo Era, and developed as a port of trade with East Asia from prewar days. At Bannosu Reclaimed Land constructed for 10 years from 1965, big companies such as Cosmo Oil Co., Ltd., Mitsubishi Chemical Corp., and Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. are located, and its development is still continued as an industrial site biggest in Kagawa Prefecture. Port of Sakaide still now remains as a resources/energy site biggest in Shikoku which mainly handles bulk cargos including crude oil, coal and LPG. Amount of foreign trade cargos in 2010 is 13.16 million tons, 1st place in Shikoku.
At West Pier Area, the repair project for existing piers takes place to prevent facilities from deteriorating and increase the efficiency of cargo handling operation, and further to take actions quickly in the event of large-scale earthquake (-7.5 m, 2 berths (1 berth being a pier reinforced earthquake-resistant)).
