Port of Imabari

Port of Imabari, located at almost the center of Seto Inland Sea, is a port facing the seaway of Kurushima Strait known for Japan’s three greatest rapid tides and Iyo Suigun. Port of Imabari was designated as an open port for the first time in Shikoku in 1936, and has therefore remained as a critical position as a pivotal place for sea transportation from early days.
Forming an economical zone with the surrounding cities and towns mainly in the regional industries such as towel manufacturing and ship building, the port has played a big role in the development of Imabari City. A regular container seaway to Korea was opened for the first time in Shikoku in 1992, and still now provides 5 services per week. (Port Administrator: Imabari City)
