Kurushima Strait Fairway

Kurushima Strait Fairway connecting Hiuchi Nada with Itsuki Nada, consisted of four narrow seaways is passed by a number of ships, with fast tide causing ship wrecks one after another, and referred to as the hardest place for ships to pass in Seto Inland Sea. As one of the countermeasures, 35,000 m3 of sunken rocks at the north mouth of west fairway was removed. This increased the width of the fairway, and alleviated the complicated and fast flow of tide on the fairway. Currently, the maintenance of fairway is continued.
