Funakoshi Fairway

Yura Peninsula further south to Miura Peninsula where Hosoki Fairway is located. Around the tip of this peninsula is a hard place for passing ships, and huge damages were incurred every year. In years 1960 through 1966, therefore, a new fairway was opened by digging part of the peninsula. Maintenance of the fairway is continued, such as by raising the level of embankment in 1998, dredging the fairway, and repairing the embankment in 2008.
