History

1979 (Showa 54th year) Oct. Present place was selected as the site of new airport.
1983 (Showa 58th year) Aug. Installation of New Takamatsu Airport was announced publicly(Civil Aeronautics Act, Article 40).
1985 (Showa 60th year) Oct. Airport permanent works commencement ceremony
1989 (Heisei 1st year) Dec. Airport was opened.

Takamatsu Airport started its services as an airport having a runway of 1,200 m in June 1958, and has played an important role as a site of air transportation in Shikoku. It was necessary, however, to maintain an efficient transportation by introducing large jet planes. Ten and several candidate places were surveyed from around 1969, and at the result of various discussions, the present place was decided in the autumn of 1979.
Construction of the present Takamatsu Airport was started in October 1985, and the airport was opened in December 1989 after the period of 4 years or so. After the opening of the airport, the number of users continues to increase steadily, and the international services are now available to Seoul, and additionally, to Shanghai from July 2011.
